Job Description

The University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School (UMass Chan) seeks a board‑certified psychiatrist to serve as the Facility Medical Director (FMD) for The Cape Cod and the Islands Community Mental Health Center in Pocasset, MA.

The Facility Medical Director’s primary responsibility is to provide administrative and clinical oversight to the DMH‑operated adult mental health center, including:

  • 16‑bed inpatient unit

  • An adult partial hospital program

You will also provide clinical guidance to community‑based programs. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Utilization management

  • Risk management

  • Support for DMH initiatives

  • Oversight of clinical and psychopharmacology services

Research opportunities are available, including protected time depending on experience and goals.

Successful candidates receive a faculty appointment with Department of Psychiatry support for clinical work, training, and research. There is an optional opportunity for voluntary night, weekend, and holiday coverage with highly competitive reimbursement.

Work schedule: Hybrid/remote – regularly scheduled on‑site time at the facility in Pocasset, MA, combined with remote/virtual coverage.

Salary Transparency

The established Department of Mental Health base salary for this position is $300,000 (exclusive of benefits and retirement).
At UMass Chan Medical School, final base salary offers are determined based on skills, education, relevant experience, and internal equity.
